Teahouse Living in the Himalayas: Heating, Food, Charging & Local Customs
What daily life is really like inside high-altitude Sherpa lodges: from yak-dung dining room stoves to solar hot showers and electricity cards.

The Warmth of Himalayan Teahouse Culture
Nepal’s teahouse trekking infrastructure is unique in the world. Instead of camping in freezing tents, each evening you step into a family-run alpine lodge where a warm central stove glows.
The Dining Hall: Heart of the Lodge
In the high villages of Namche, Dingboche, and Thorong Phedi, the dining room is heated by a metal pot-bellied stove burning dried yak dung. It is the communal hub where climbers from 40 nations gather to share stories, sip ginger lemon honey tea, and fuel up on Dal Bhat power.
Power, WiFi & Hot Water
Above 3,500m, electricity is primarily solar. Lodges charge a nominal fee (USD 3-5) to charge devices or access satellite WiFi (AirJaldi / EverestLink). We recommend carrying a 20,000mAh external power bank.
